1. Why Should You Buy Your Computer From Park City Computer ?

Because nobody knows your computer better than we do! When you purchase a computer from us it is assembled using only name brand, factory fresh new components, right here in Bridgeport by our expert computer technicians to assure you trouble free operation. In the event something does go wrong, nobody knows better how to fix it than the person who built it. Buy from one of the local discount stores and you get a box that was probably assembled in China, Korea or Taiwan, and the person you purchase it from may never even have seen the inside of a computer.

Because we build computers with (ISA) Industry Standard Components, the same parts used by all the major computer manufacturers. There are two ways to build a computer. Park City uses ISA components and socketed motherboards. Major components can be easily and inexpensively upgraded and repaired by simply removing a part and replacing it. Parts for our machines are available through any computer store or catalog. This means that you don’t have to worry about your computer becoming obsolete as computer technology improves. The other way to build a computer (the wrong way) is with proprietary parts that are only available through the original manufacturer. These machines are cheap to build but very expensive to repair. A simple video or sound problem can require the replacement of the entire expensive main circuit board and most replacement parts are expensive and have to come from the original manufacturer. It is often cheaper to throw these machines away that to do a major upgrade.

Because we use only new name brand parts in your computer! You can buy cheaper computers today but you can’t buy a better one for your money. There are lots of ways to cheapen a computer. You can use rebuilt or refurbished parts, you can use second rate parts, cheap motherboards with everything soldered on to it. This makes a computer cheaper to produce and sell but much more expensive to repair and maintain. Park City Computer won’t compromise Quality for price. At Park City Computer will only get the best quality and computer that is going to be reliable and inexpensive to operate and maintain for a long time . We use genuine AMD and INTEL processors to assure reliable operation and software compatibility and Brand Name hard drives to assure data integrity

Because we deliver Your Computer!

Which would you rather do?

A) Drive  miles to buy your computer, carry home a bunch of boxes that have been shipped half way around the world, unpack everything, connect a web of cables and only then find out if your new computer survived the journey. If not, you get call a salesperson who probably knows nothing about how a computer works, spend hours on the phone answering technical questions you don't understand and finally  pack it all back up and lug it back to the store for exchange or service!

B) Buy a mail-order computer over the phone from someone you never get to meet, pay too much for your system because it has a "well known name" and then a bunch of boxes dropped off (after the same trip around the world) for you to unpack and set up. If you're not one of the lucky ones follow the steps above except instead of delivering back to the store for exchange or service you take it to UPS and ship it back to the factory for exchange or service.

OR,

Wouldn't you rather buy your computer the PARK CITY COMPUTER way!

We will sit down with you face to face and discuss your computing needs. Then we will build a computer just for you based on the way you will use it. We will deliver your new computer to your home or office, set it up, connect all the cables, set up your software and printer and spend an hour or so showing you how to get up and running. We will also help you set up your internet account with the service provider of your choice, help you select a screen name and password and show you how to send email.  Other companies charge up to $100.00 just to deliver and set up your computer, still others don't even offer the option.

Because we provide free onsite service! In the unlikely event that you have a problem with your computer we come to you and will either service the problem right there or take the computer back to the shop and bring it back to you when its ready. If you have a problem with someone else's computer you will have to pack it up, take it back to the store for service (sometimes ship it back to the factory) and pick it back up when the work is done. You might be able to get onsite service, but it will cost you extra and it is expensive. At Park City Computer, onsite service is included free with your computer.

Because we provide an excellent warranty! If any part of your Park City Computer fails during normal use during the first year of ownership we will repair it free, parts and labor included. Remember, we come to you for computer service, you do not make trips back to the store or service center. Also, if you want to upgrade your computer during the first year all you pay for is the parts, we will provide the service free. This means that if you decide you want to add a stereo sound system, more memory, or a modem during the first year of ownership, you can do it very inexpensively.

2. If I purchase a computer elsewhere, can Park City set it up?

Absolutely. Even if you decide to purchase your computer from one of those companies that ship it to you via UPS/Fedex or purchase it a local store, we can still help you get set up and running. We can unpack and setup your new system, help you through the software setup and registration process, set up your Internet connection and get your anti-virus software installed and updated. This could save the new user hours of frustrating setup and cost less than the computers manufacturer would charge for the same service

At the same time you might also want to consider or new user mini-tutorial where we will show you how to handle some of the more basic computing tasks such as updating keeping your anti-virus software up to date, sending and receiving email and getting you started with your word processor. In two or three hours you're all set up and running.

4 How much does a Park City Computer cost and what are your service rates?

When it comes to price, buying a computer is a lot like buying a car. You can get a Yugo really cheap or pay a lot for a Cadillac. Most people are smart enough to stay away from the Yugo and avoided the problems of those who bought one. Most folks can't afford a Cadillac and don't need a car that big or that powerful. Most people would also be very skeptical if a salesperson offered them a Cadillac for the price of a Yugo.

Computer purchasers need to use common sense when buying a computer. If you see an add for the cheapest computer advertised, your going to get the cheapest computer, quality and service included. If a manufacturer offers another model next to the cheapest one for $300.00 or $400.00 more then there has to be a difference. Something is missing from the cheap one that they are going to try to sell you to jack up the price. The cheap one probably doesn't come with a monitor, or a very poor one which they salesperson will try to sell you an upgrade at additional price. More memory, higher cost. Better sound or video, surge protector, anti-virus software - more money. Get the picture. Just like buying a car.

At Park City Computer we don't have cheap computers, we have good computers and good service. We will sit down with you and help you decide how much computer you need, explain to you what your buying and why and give you a price that is very competitive with the Dell's and Gateways. Plus you get free delivery, setup and internet connection. You could get those services from the other guys but that's another edd on

Our service rates are generally $50.00 per service call. A service call begins when we reach your site and is assumed to take one hour or less, additional time is billed on a fraction of an hour basis and we are flexible. For example, a  service call that takes an hour and ten minutes is close enough to an hour; an hour and a half would be $75.00. In shop service time is billed at $50.00 per hour.

Compare our prices and our services with the other guys and we think you'll find that you get a better deal, and much better service, at Park City Computer.

5. How much do the "extras" cost?

When you buy a Park City Computer there are not a lot of extras. We want to be sure our customers enjoy their computing experience so we work hard to ensure that the computer you buy will be configured properly with all the extras included so you won't be nickel-and-dimed to death after the purchase buying the "extras".

To start with we will help you decide how much computer you will need based on what you tell us you intend to do with it. This is an important first step so that you are not surprised and forced to purchase expensive add-ons later.

Your Park City Computer will come with the basic software you need to to get the most out of your computer. If your needs go beyond that, we supply the additional software you require at very reasonable prices.

Your computer comes with a surge protector to protect it from power line and telephone line surges that can damage you computer and destroy your data. If you will be using a high speed Cable or DSL connection we'll make sure your surge protector can handle those connections as well.

Your computer will come with Norton Anti-virus software with a full one year update contract, not 30 or 90 day trial versions like some of the big companies supply.

We will deliver and setup your new computer at your home or business so you're sure it works when we leave. No need to worry if those beat up boxes the UPS delivery person left will yield junk or a working computer.

Most new computer users start out with a printer. We can help you decide if an inkjet or laser printer is the right choice for you and recommend a reliable, affordable unit to compliment your new computer. Whether you purchase your printer with your computer or afterwards, we will deliver, set it up and test it so you can be sure it is working correctly.

If you are ready, we will set up your internet connection of choice when we deliver your computer, including helping you choose your screen name and password. We'll even show you how to send and receive your first email.

And oh yes, you will also receive a free mouse pad.

7. Does Park City Computer make home/office calls?

Our motto is "We come to you". Whether you want to discuss the purchase of a new computer, have your computer serviced or want mentoring or tutoring on a hardware or software issue, we prefer to come to you. If a new computer purchase is approaching you will be more comfortable discussing your computer needs at home where you can relax and we can see how and where the computer will be used. This will help us answer a frequent new user question of where should I put it and how much space will I need. We can also determine if your electrical and telephone wiring are adequate  at a given location.

When servicing a computer it is often helpful to see it where it is being used and what other equipment is connected to it. Frequently the attached equipment turns out to be the problem and seeing the setup saves us from making unnecessary trips back and forth to the shop or having the customer transport unnecessary  heavy equipment to our shop.

Every computer is configured differently; different operating systems, hardware, keyboards, etc. When we mentor/tutor a customer we feel it is best to help them learn on the same equipment they will be using day to day. Although we can arrange to train you on our equipment, we prefer to help you learn in your home or office.

8. Does Park City  offer private mentoring/tutoring?

Sometimes a customer wants to learn a specific software package like MS-Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc. Sometimes they just want to learn how to accomplish a specific task, like type or format a letter, or, create a flyer or a budget. That is tutoring and we can help you learn how to use most major operating systems like Windows 95, 98, 98SE, ME, NT, 2000, and XP. We can also tutor you in most of the popular software programs that are in use today as well as internet training including use of email, search engines and general browsing on the world wide web.

Mentoring is similar to tutoring but differs in that the client, typically a business person who doesn't have time to learn all the details of computing, (they have people to do that)  needs a relationship with a computer expert who can provide answers to technical issues as they come, help the client build need specific skills or solve computing problems and make recommendations for  the organization when necessary. We are always ready to help business people solve their computing problems.

11. Can Park City Computer help me connect to the internet?

Yes we can. We have set up hundreds of your neighbors with AOL, Earthlink, Juno, MSN, SNET, Charter and Optonline. With all the internet options available today, getting on and staying online can sometimes be a frustrating experience. Choosing a ISP (service provider) and then selecting either dial-up, Cable or DSL can be a confusing process for the newcomer., especially Cable and DSL where you are shipped a box of electronic parts and wires and expected to install and setup the equipment yourself. Unfortunately what is supposed to be simple seldom is and ruins the internet experience for many people.

We can help you decide which which ISP will best suit your needs, check your location for the appropriate electrical, phone and cable wiring and make recommendations for changes or updates that will be necessary. We will install any necessary hardware in your computer, load and configure your software, check your connection, help you chose a screen name and password and help you send your first email.

In some cases where phone or cable wiring is needed we may be able to do that also saving you that expensive service calls from the phone and cable company.

And, if you want  tutoring on any aspect of the internet, from browsing, to utilizing search engines, sending email, etc, we also provide tutoring at a reasonable cost.

14. Can Park City Computer Refill My Inkjet Printer Cartridges?

Maybe. Many inkjet printer cartridges can be refilled several times before they have to be replaced. Most printer manufacturers discourage this practice because it cuts deeply into their profits. Some manufacturers even go so far as to build technology into their cartridges that prevents them from being refilled.

Since the computer market has gotten very price competitive, profit margins have fallen dramatically. Inkjet printers, because they require constant refills,  have become the new cash cow of the computer industry.  Even Gateway and Dell have begun offering their own printers. Think about it,  they sell you a printer once for $75.00 to $300.00 and then force you to buy outrageously expensive new replacement cartridges as long as you own their machine. In a year or two you have paid for the printer two or three times over. And usually , the cheaper the printer  you buy,  the the smaller and more expensive the cartridges

With many cartridges costing between $30.00 and $50.00 each, refilling your cartridges  can become a big cost savings for the computer user, especially if you do a lot of printing.

However, refilling is not as clean and simple as some of the "you can refill any cartridge kits" would have you believe. There are different types of ink. It can get messy and cause stains if you are not very careful.

Park City Computer can refill many inkjet cartridges for about half the price you would pay retail for them so long as they have not been disabled by the manufacturer and you have handled them correctly. If you have a cartridge(s) you would like us to refill please click on this cartridge handling link and read the instructions on that page. (It would be a good idea to read this page now so you don't mis-handle  your cartridges and prevent their refill accidently. )  Call or email us to confirm that we can fill your model cartridge and  to arrange delivery and drop off.
